Big W’s support and dedication for Perth Children’s Hospital Foundation was on display as they celebrated reaching the million dollar mark in funds raised for the kids of Western Australia.

On Thursday 5 September a special event was held in the Collegiate Lounge of Perth Children’s Hospital to deliver a huge thanks to the BIG W team from across WA for their long term commitment to the thousands of sick children that receive treatment at our state’s paediatric hospital.

This consistent flow of fundraising has enabled the Foundation to fund a range of initiatives at the hospital, including an Aboriginal Liaison Officer to provide cultural and emotional support to indigenous families, a Fellowship in Endocrinology – a position that cares for children with diabetes, thyroid, growth and puberty issues,  scoliosis research, and specialised equipment for a simulation suite which offers a training environment for health professionals to refine their skills under high stress, real life situations.

The Foundation’s Big Splash WA campaign, which focused on raising awareness for the Child and Adolescent Mental Health Service, also benefited from the tireless support of the Big W team.

$65,000 was raised in early 2018 to support this important initiative as well as the hospital’s recreational area Fun on Four – which provides patients and families a space to take a break from medical appointments and procedures.

Perth Children’s Hospital Foundation CEO, Carrick Robinson, said as well as acknowledging staff, Big W’s customers deserved a huge thank you as it was their generosity that had led to the phenomenal fundraising total.

“The support from Big W has gone above and beyond our expectations, and the many initiatives that have been funded as a result of the donations received simply wouldn’t have been possible without the generosity of the WA community and Big W team,” he said.

We really can’t thank Big W and their customers enough; they have made a real and significant difference to sick and injured kids throughout our state.
