PCHF and Perth Firies Team Up to Support WA Kids with Burn Injuries: 2025 Perth Firefighter’s Calendar Launching this November.
We were thrilled to show some of Perth’s finest career firefighters around the world-class Burns Service at Perth Children’s Hospital (PCH) last month, giving them the opportunity to see the impact of their fundraising efforts first-hand.
Since its inception more than 18 years ago, the iconic and much-loved calendar has raised over $1.7 million for Perth Children’s Hospital Foundation (PCHF), directly benefiting WA kids affected by burn injuries.
During their visit, the firefighters had the opportunity to meet world-renowned burns specialist Professor Fiona Wood AO, as well as PCHF Ambassador Kid, Ruby (11).
Ruby’s journey began when, at just four years old, she had an accident in the kitchen resulting in severe third-degree burns. She spent 19 days in hospital under specialist care, undergoing numerous surgeries followed by months of recovery and treatments to help her skin heal.
Ruby’s treatments included spray-on skin, skin grafts, more than 30 surgeries and laser therapy to improve scarring. While Ruby is now thriving, she may also require further surgeries once she turns 16.
Ruby has also recently taken part in a surfing intervention through Move to Improve, an Aussie-first ‘movement as medicine’ program led by PCH researchers for WA kids living with ongoing health conditions, including burns.
Part-funded by PCHF, Move to Improve is a multi-year study evaluating the physical and mental health impacts of physical activity on kids like Ruby with long-term health conditions, and their families.
Last year’s calendar raised an impressive $100,000 for PCHF, and sales of the 2025 edition are set to play a vital role in supporting innovative research led by Professor Fiona Wood AO. Funds raised will go towards a new study aiming to uncover the relationship between the long-term physical and mental health impacts of burns, paving the way for more holistic, personalised treatments.
In addition, contributions from the calendar have enabled PCHF to purchase game-changing equipment and technology at PCH, such as the specialised Burns Bath which helps to prevent infections, as well as advanced imaging tools to accurately assess burn depth. The addition of colourful murals in treatment rooms also help to create a calming and supportive environment for kids.
The 2025 Perth Firefighter’s Calendar is on sale from mid-November, with tickets for the official November 15 launch event at the Court Hotel now on sale. Tickets are $50 and include event entry, as well your very own copy of the 2025 calendar. Don’t miss out!
