Prepare for an unforgettable evening of fashion, philanthropy, and good times, all in support of WA’s sick kids.
Hosted at the prestigious Royal Freshwater Bay Yacht Club on Saturday, November 2nd, the Zweck Spring/Summer 2024-2025 collection will be unveiled at this heartfelt annual fundraising Gala, held in support of Perth Children’s Hospital Foundation.
This year’s runway will feature 43 inspiring women from all walks of life, modelling modern silhouettes that effortlessly transition from desk to dinner and beach to ball.
The 2024 Zweck Gala aims to raise $100,000 for the Foundation, which will help us to provide art therapy for sick kids at Perth Children’s Hospital (PCH). This long-running program engages professional artists to bring creative workshops to patients, providing a much-needed distraction from the hospital environment.
This year’s line-up of homegrown models features three PCHF Ambassadors, including 16-year-old Emelia, who has undergone numerous surgeries for her cleft lip and palate since she was just a few months old.
The event will be a special moment for Emelia, who said: “Art therapy got me through my hospital stays, so I’m very excited to be raising money for PCHF.
“I absolutely love my outfit. It was very fun having Klara fit and design my outfit to suit my personality and style. The diversity is also important to me, because seeing a model with a cleft lip and palate on a runway when I was younger would’ve been inspiring and amazing for my confidence.”
Former PCHF Ambassador Kid Tayla, now 22, lives with cerebral palsy and is taking to the runway in a custom-designed outfit that accommodates her wheelchair.
Zweck founder and designer Klara Forrest says, “Designing the outfits has been a thoughtful and rewarding process. For Tayla, meeting her mobility needs was a priority, so we’ve taken great care to adapt the design to ensure her comfort, while still maintaining the beauty and elegance of the piece. The goal was to create something that allows Tayla to feel empowered, comfortable, and proud on the runway, highlighting that fashion should be for everyone.”
Mary, another PCHF Ambassador Kid living with cystic fibrosis (CF), is also eager to take part. “It’s a good chance for me to branch out and learn to walk in heels,” she says, adding, “I want to show everyone that people with chronic illnesses like CF can have these experiences just like anyone else.”
Perth Children’s Hospital Foundation CEO Carrick Robinson said: “Thanks to generous long-time supporters like Zweck, PCHF can provide access to positive patient experiences such as art therapy, which helps to make hospital visits less daunting and more enjoyable for WA’s sick kids.
“Art therapy not only serves as a fun and creative distraction from the hospital environment, but it also offers a proven boost to mental health and wellbeing. By bringing kids together, art therapy strengthens social connections, helps to ease loneliness, and alleviates some of the stress and anxiety patients may be feeling during their stay.”
