Big things are happening at Sandcastles.

Big things are happening at Sandcastles.

Sandcastles (Boodja Mia), WA’s first children’s hospice, is beginning to take shape, with key structural works on the ground floor now complete.

Over a four-week period, more than 110 truckloads of concrete were poured – forming a solid foundation for the basement and ground floor, while also paving the way for the next phase of construction.

Watch the video below for a bird’s-eye view of the latest milestone to take place on site at Sandcastles:

The progress was captured in stunning drone footage, thanks to construction partner West to West Group.

You can also check out the construction in action, via the below time-lapse of the ground floor concrete pour:

What’s next? We’re going up!

Construction is officially going vertical, with walls and columns now starting to rise from the freshly poured foundations. These new works will shape the future heart of the hospice, including the arrival lounge, family suites, hydrotherapy pool, clinical spaces and play areas.

Here’s what else has been happening on site lately:

  • Ground floor formwork complete
  • Basement walls taking shape
  • Lift and stairwell structures poured
  • Prep underway for power, gas & communications
  • Interior design selections & art installations in progress

We are so excited to be one step closer to Sandcastles opening, and WA having its very first specialist respite and end-of-life care for children and their families. This will be a warm, welcoming place to create memories, and for families and children to feel supported while still receiving hospital quality care.
