Shelby is a Mega-Fun volunteer who volunteers her time one day a week in the Megazone play area at Princess…
“Act as if what you do makes a difference. It does”
Your time is one of the most valuable gifts you can give. Our volunteers are the backbone of the Foundation. They are involved in almost all of our fundraising and community events and some have even been with us for over 15 years.
By volunteering with Perth Children’s Hospital Foundation (formerly PMH Foundation) you will be giving the gift of time, and your efforts can help us raise vital funds for the hospital.
If you’re looking to meet new people, experience new things and get involved with a great cause, we’d love to have you as a Perth Children’s Hospital Foundation volunteer!
Frequently asked questions
Can I volunteer on the hospital wards and with the patients?
We have opportunities for volunteers to assist in Stitches’ Megazone on Level 7 of Princess Margaret Hospital (the play area). Please see the position description for Mega-Fun Volunteers below. If you are looking for specific “on the ward” volunteering opportunities, please contact PMH Volunteers directly with your query.
How can I help?
By joining our Perth Children’s Hospital Foundation volunteer team, you will have the opportunity to be involved in a wide variety of fundraising and community events such as The Colour Run and gift wrapping stalls around Christmas time. Your support at fundraising and community events helps us to raise much needed funds for kids in hospital to help them lead their healthiest and happiest lives! We also require assistance in the Stitches’ Megazone play area in the hospital. Please see all the current volunteering opportunities below to see how you can help.
What is the process to become a Perth Children's Hospital Foundation volunteer?
Once you have read through the FAQs and identified a position that interests you in the current opportunities, please email our Volunteer Coordinator with your preferred opportunity. If none of the current opportunities appeal to you, please complete the Volunteer Interest Form and you will be added to our ‘Stitches’ Little Helpers’ e-newsletter to be the first to find out when new volunteer opportunities arise.
Why should I volunteer?
People volunteer for many different reasons including personal development, to meet new people, to give back to the community, or to meet corporate or course requirements. At Perth Children’s Hospital Foundation, no matter what your reason for volunteering is, we always make sure that our volunteers have fun whilst helping out and that they know they are making a difference for children in hospital.
Do I need a Working with Children Check?
As many of our volunteering opportunities are events based, you do not need to apply for a Working with Children Check (WWCC) unless specified. However, all our Interns and Stitches volunteers will need to apply for a WWCC. We will be happy to guide you through the process.
Can I volunteer with my children?
This will depend on the type of event you wish to get involved in. Please contact our Volunteer Coordinator, Amber for more information.
I am under 18 years old, can I volunteer?
If you are between 16 and 18, you can volunteer for Perth Children’s Hospital Foundation but you will need to be accompanied by an adult at all times. Unfortunately, if you’re under 18 you will not be allowed to volunteer at events in Princess Margaret Hospital due to the hospital’s volunteering policy. Unfortunately at this time, we cannot accept volunteers under the age of 16.
Do you provide work experience opportunities for school students?
As we do not have regular office-based volunteering opportunities, we cannot commit to taking work experience students on board. However if you are between 16 and 18 and have an adult supervisor who is willing to volunteer with you, we would love to have you join us at our events. Check out our current opportunities to see how you can help.
Will I get a statement to confirm the number of hours I have volunteered for?
As a lot of our volunteers are students, we understand the importance of recognising the number of hours invested in volunteering for portfolio purposes. A statement confirming hours and volunteering duties can be provided upon request.
