Perth firefighters tour Burns Service at PCH.

Late last month, we were lucky enough to show a crew of hard-working Perth firefighters around our world-class Burns Service here at Perth Children’s Hospital.

We introduced the firies to legendary burns specialist Professor Fiona Wood, and they learnt first-hand how the $1.6 million they’ve raised over the past 17 years for PCHF has supported the Burns Service at PCH – enabling clinical excellence, innovative research and equipment, education, and community engagement.

During their visit, the firies also met adorable 2-year-old Zayliah, who was attending her last appointment for a burns injury resulting from a treadmill accident.

Every year, a select group of firies raise funds for PCHF through the annual Perth Firefighters Calendar, an iconic community fundraising activity that sees career firefighters volunteer their time over a 12-month period to commit to the arduous physical commitments of the calendar photoshoot.

The development, production, and sale of the calendars are all independently led and carried out by these WA firies, demonstrating their passion and commitment to go above and beyond for children’s healthcare in WA.

Perth Children’s Hospital Foundation CEO Carrick Robinson said, ” Treatment of burns injuries can often be complex, time consuming and painful. For some burn survivors, treatment can continue for multiple years.

“Thanks to our donors and supporters, including the long-running support of the Perth Firefighters Calendar, PCHF can support state-of-the-art surgical and medical treatments at PCH, improving outcomes in terms of better and faster physical recovery as well as the reduction of scarring.”

In recent years, funding has also gone towards creating more positive experiences for patients receiving treatment for burns at PCH, including colourful murals in treatment rooms that help create a more calming and supportive environment for kids.

It’s not too late!
