Curing Homesickness Cards

Kids belong at home, not in hospital.

With 90% of children experiencing some level of homesickness while in hospital, our partners Coles are supporting the Curing Homesickness initiative again this year to raise funds for WA sick kids.

From today, you can buy a $2 Curing Homesickness card in any Coles supermarket to help raise crucial funds for sick kids in WA. Kids like Mary, who has cystic fibrosis and regularly visits Perth Children’s Hospital for ongoing physio to clear her lungs, a commitment that totals between eight to nine hours per week.

Mary has to have physio every single day, and we’ve always had to be a little bit careful about the activities that she enrols in. It affects her daily life.” – Rachel, Mary’s Mum.

Mary loves the ocean and recently participated in a Surfing Intervention Program funded by Perth Children’s Hospital Foundation. The program enables kids living with a chronic disease to safely and confidently increase their participation in physical activity.

There is currently no cure for cystic fibrosis. However, by funding important research and innovative technology, clinicians at Perth Children’s Hospital have a chance to improve Mary’s quality of life by keeping Mary out of the hospital and putting her back at home and out in the water where she feels healthy and happy.

The money raised in Western Australia from Coles’ Curing Homesickness appeal this year will help fund world-class research and technology at Perth Children’s Hospital to help kids with cystic fibrosis live a longer and healthier life.
I urge every Australian to get behind this campaign so we can change the outcome for these vulnerable children.” – Carrick Robinson, CEO, Perth Children’s Hospital Foundation.
