Being in hospital can be a frightening experience for many children and their families. Frequent and long-term patients regularly…
Megazone turned into a hub of activity from October 21 – 27 as we celebrated Children’s Week – a national week celebrating the right of children to enjoy childhood. It was also a great opportunity for patients at PMH and their families to demonstrate their talents, skills and abilities in a safe and fun environment!
The week kicked off with fun dance and fitness movement classes thanks to Yoga Bears and Happy Feet Fitness. Children jumped, danced and moved to some great tunes throughout the afternoon.
On Tuesday, Ruby Rainbows Magic Show entertained Megazone with her fun magic show! Aurora (pictured), enjoyed every moment of the show and didn’t want Ruby to leave. Ruby commented,
I love entertaining children. If I can put a smile on just one child’s face, then it’s all worthwhile
On Wednesday, the children were treated to a special visit from Princess Ariel and Prince Eric, who created wonderful balloon animals, flowers and swords – the only limit was their imagination! The children were also lucky enough to enjoy some face painting – with tigers, unicorns and bright shining stars running around Megazone during the afternoon.
The highly anticipated Bollywood Bling dance class was enjoyed by children and parents alike on Thursday morning! Patients and their siblings learnt how to jingle jangle with their bells and how to move their hips and tap their feet in true Bollywood style! This was a much loved class, with many children still wanting to dance even once the class was over!
Amy from Build a Bear joined us on Friday and each child was given their own special bear to take home, complete with its very own name and special ‘heart’!
Michael from Kite Kinetics also joined us on Friday afternoon and taught us all about where Kites originated and how to make them fly! The children were even able to make their own special kites to take home or hang from their hospital beds.
A huge THANK YOU to everyone who came and helped out during the week, especially the lovely organisations who gave up their time to run activities and workshops – everyone had so much fun!!
