The Foundation on the frontline

Kids don’t belong in hospital at Christmas but sometimes they need hospital level care.

Loccy is one of 2,000 children in WA currently living with a life-limiting illness, who has complex medical needs and needs 24-hours-a-day care.

Their journey can span weeks, months or years as it has for Loccy and his family. This can mean prolonged stress on families that affects their relationships, well-being and financial resources.

A children’s hospice is desperately needed for out of home respite for WA’s sickest kids and their families, and if they choose, a place that facilitates end-of-life services. Right now WA does not have a dedicated children’s hospice facility.

With your generosity we can support a sensitively designed, out of home care facility for children from birth to 18 years old, offering a range of services in an environment that feels like a home away from home but has the highest standards of medical care and support services.

Give the ultimate gift to help WA’s sickest children and their families.

Regular giving is one of the most effective ways you can support WA’s sickest kids. Knowing that we can rely on your regular contribution to not only help build the first children’s hospice in WA, but also cover the fit-out and ongoing non-operation costs.

Becoming a regular giver means you will be making a direct and ongoing impact to WA’s sickest children and their families throughout Western Australia.

Regular giving is easy and flexible: each month your chosen amount is automatically debited from your credit card. You can increase, decrease or cancel your monthly donation at any time by contacting us.

We will send you a receipt every July for all your donations received in the previous financial year which you can then use for tax purposes.

When Loccy was born, he was a bundle of joy to his mum Danni and dad Matt.

“He was rolling at six weeks,” says Danni. “He was a beautiful little man. Then at about three months, he changed. All of a sudden he stopped smiling. That’s when we knew.”

Their very worst fears had come true. Their grief unimaginable.

Since then, Loccys health has deteriorated significantly. He is now 15, and unable to do anything for himself. His parents have no idea how long they have left with him. “We cry about it every day,” says Danni. “We just want to keep him comfortable.”

When Danni thinks about the difference the hospice would make to her family, she describes the simple things most of us take for granted. Simply being able to leave the house is very difficult, given Loccy’s around-the-clock needs.

Danni and Matt would also love to be able to enjoy some precious quality time with Loccy, without the constant stress and pressure of their caring role absorbing every ounce of their attention and energy.

A dedicated children’s hospice would enable this support for their family.

Meet Loccy and his mum Danni.

WA's first children's hospice.

Three months ago, Perth Children’s Hospital Foundation announced a proud partnership with the Child and Adolescent Health Service (CAHS), to provide the first children’s hospice in Western Australia.

A hospice allows families to spend time together as a family. It allows parents to be parents, and not be the person causing pain or discomfort to their child through treatments. Children’s hospices can offer symptom assessment and treatment, respite care and support for siblings, parents and grandparents. Some families will also choose the hospice as the preferred place for end of life

Right now WA does not have a dedicated children’s hospice facility, but with your support we can turn the vision we have into a reality to help fund this once in a lifetime facility for WA’s sickest children and their families.
